What are some ways of politely telling people they cannot park due to a reserved event?

I work as a parking attendant for the Visitor Parking garage at a university in the city where I live. The company I work for has a contract with the university. The department I report to, Visitor Parking/Community Relations is responsible for reserving spaces for events, which can be an interview, a job fair, a luncheon, a seminar, a workshop, teacher training, and so on. The Visitor Parking garage has 55 "regular" parking spaces, 6 spaces for anyone working or going to the Presidents office, and 4 spaces for handicapped parkers. There are times when Visitor Parking is reserved for events, & when this happens, I am only authorized to allow to give access to the guests attending the event(s). What are polite ways to let everyone not attending the event(s) know they cannot park when Visitor Parking is reserved? What are polite ways to deal with people who do not want to take no for an answer? What are polite ways to deal with people compaining when they are denied access when Visitor Parking is reserved? What are polite ways to deal with people who cannot find any parking, but they cannot park in Visitor Parking because it is reserved? What are polite ways of letting people, who are not there for the event(s), know that I cannot tell them what event Visitor Parking is reserved for? What are polite ways of dealing with people telling you they only need to park for 15 minutes, & you cannot let them park because Visitor Parking is reseved? What are polite ways of letting people know that a parking spaces was not reserved for them when Visitor Parking is reserved?

This is really difficult situation where by people doesn't accept to NO easily, only way to get out of the situation is to put flexible railing/rope and block the parking area temporary....displying the reason for block.

Hi Jayant,

Well that was a great thought. Your insight have reminded me that you could do
1) A wheel clamp sign where a fine will be imposed to unlock the car
2) On top of that you will need to put the tempory barrier to block out cars.
3) For point 1, you will need to inform the people where to pay the fine to unlock.

Aside to snugglegirl05,

I would suggest you escalate to your manager/supervisor on your suggestion as this might need the university approval.

Please remember to state out the reason and your predicument.

thanks
Asset
