How do I get my reps to be on time?

I am having trouble with certain reps in my department. they just can't seem to make it on time consistently. I feel like I have tried everything from reprimands, to bonus incentives, I just can't seem to make anything stick. I am concerned of the effect it is having on my good workers (lower their morale?)

Please help!

Hi Dean

You are facing one of the toughest topics to have, yet an easy one to solve. As hard as it may be, you'll have to show that your corrective action plans have consequences. That means that if you say 3 tardies per month is acceptable and the 4th results in a written warning... you have to execute the warning. If another tardy occurs and they advance to the next level of corrective action, then do it. Do it to the point of termination if you have to. The only way you'll change behavior is to show consequences- both positive and negative ones.

It will do two things- solve your problem and you'll gain the respect of your employees. Honestly, they will appreciate a manager of their word. Good luck.

I second.

When management shows favoratism or any inconsistancies in dealings between reps, it creates an envirement where reps can easily forget the basic rules of the office.

I third.

People are simply...people. Sad that we often have to act like baby-sitters, but some adults need to be reminded of boundaries just like children.

Thank you so much for your advice! I have already implemented a corrective action plan (written warning on 3rd occasion, bonus deductions thereafter) I will stay commited to enforcing it.
