USA - Communications company reports better performance

Following criticism for its poor customer service, Fairpoint Communications have said that it has reduced waiting times for customers who call its call centers. It says it has also cut the number who abandon the call before they even speak to an operator.

The company report that the average wait time for callers to its call center is now nine seconds and that 89 percent of calls were answered within 20 seconds.

FairPoint Communications telephone company bought out Verizon Communications' landline and Internet business in the northern New England regions in 2008.

It has been reported that the company has had service problems, after customers approached regulators with complaints.
